When you save an Instagram video that sits inside an album, most downloaders hand you the first slide and stop there, because the first slide is all the preview data contains. This one walks the whole album and returns each item on its own. Slide three might be a video while slides one and two are photos, and you get all three labelled correctly rather than three copies of the cover image.

What you get when you save an Instagram video
Video slides arrive as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, the combination every phone, browser and editor opens without codec drama. Feed video is normally stored at 1080p or a little under, and that HD copy is the one you get , no watermark is added at any stage. Photo slides arrive as JPEG at upload resolution.
Where Instagram published more than one encode, each is listed with its height so you can tell them apart. Bigger is not always better: if you are saving something to watch on a phone, the smaller file is visually identical and a third of the size. If you are pulling a clip into an edit, take the largest.
Reel or video: how to tell, and does it matter
Practically, no. Both link shapes resolve here. The distinction is
just where Instagram files the post: vertical short-form goes to the reels
tab and gets a /reel/ URL, everything else gets /p/.
Since 2022 Instagram has quietly converted most new video posts to reels
anyway, so a link you copied last year and one you copied today can point at
the same content through different paths.
If you specifically want the short-form workflow with quality options up front, keep a short clip for offline viewing.
When you cannot download a video from Instagram
Three causes cover almost everything. The account went private after
the link was shared. The post was deleted. Or the link is a profile link
rather than a post link; instagram.com/username has no video
attached to it, and what you probably want in that case is
the profile photo viewer needs only a username.
Links copied from inside the app sometimes carry a long tracking string after a question mark. That is harmless; it gets stripped before the lookup.

Can I download just one slide from a carousel?
Yes. Every slide is listed separately with its own button. Take the one you want and ignore the rest.
What is the maximum length?
There is no cap on our side. Instagram's own limit is 15 minutes for a reel upload and 60 minutes for longer feed video, and anything within that resolves normally. Very long files take a few extra seconds to start streaming.
Does saving a video reduce the quality?
No. The file is passed through untouched: there is no conversion step where quality could be lost.
Why do some posts show two qualities and others only one?
It depends how the creator uploaded it. Instagram only generates a second encode when the source is large enough to warrant one, so smaller uploads have a single version.
Can I get the audio on its own?
Yes, but through a different route: keep the sound without the footage.
Can I download an Instagram video on my phone?
Yes, on both iPhone and Android, straight from the browser. The file saves to Downloads and your gallery picks it up. Nothing is installed.

Is there a watermark on the saved video?
None added by us. You get Instagram's own file. Anything already burned into the frames before upload stays, because it is part of the video.
